BNP programme foiled in Barisal

Police foiled BNP’s progarmmes after charging baton when the party men tried to bring out a procession in several areas in the city yesterday morning.

Three persons were injured and four others arrested during the police action. In retaliated BNP activists ransacked four auto rickshaws and threw bricks toward different shops during the attack.

Local sources and police said BNP district and city committees jointly called programme in front of party office at sadar road of the city at 10:30am protesting the warrant issued against party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia.  BNP, Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal were coming from different spots towards venue with procession. Police tried to stop procession at sadar road. But activists ignored the police order and continued the procession. At one stage they locked into altercation with police. Police later charged batons on them. Facing the police action BNP activists tried to counter attack on police. Police later postponed BNP processions from Sadar Road, Girza Moholla, Kathpotty, Agarpur road and Fakirbari road charging batons. Police arrested four BCC counsellors and joint convener of city unit Swccha Sebak Dal Mir Zahidul Kabir, city leader of Swccha Sebak Dal Mahbubur Rahman Pintu and others two from the spot. Three were injured during the police action.

Shah Md Awlad Hosen, officer in charge of Barisal model thana said that a case in this connection under processing. He said BNP has no permission to bring out procession in the city road. Violating the police order activists of BNP brought out procession in different places and tried to damage public properties. Police charged batons to control the situation.  On the other hand, protesting the police action joint secretary of central BNP and president of Barisal city BNP Advocate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar said police attacked us without any cause.
