Sudipta Biswas, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong city unit, was murdered over previous enmity. Sudipta had enmity with some BCL leaders over politics, said police.
Police early yesterday detained a youth from the city’s Boropool area on charge of Sudipta murder, who was beaten to death in front of his home in Sadarghat area on October 6.
The arrestee was identified as Mukter Hossain, 25, a resident of Lalkhan Bazar area. He is an activist of Juba League city unit. After about one week of the sensational murder incident of Sudipta Biswas police arrested one Mukter Hossain for the first time on charge of the murder.
In a press briefing yesterday SM Mostain Hossain, deputy commissioner (South) said, “Sudipta was murder over previous enmity with the murderers.”
He also said that Sudipta had not any enmity with arrestee Mukter. Mukter has said some names with them Sudipta had enmity. In response their call Mukter took part in the murder.
“We are scrutinising the names given by Mukter,” added Mostain Hossain.
He also said that the murder was taken place for not one reason. Facebook status is one of them. “There are multiple reasons. We are looking for all the reasons. We will seek ten-day remand for Mukter.”
The press briefing was arranged at Media Centre of Chittagong Metropolitan Police while additional deputy commissioner (South) Shah Md Abdur Rouf, assistant commissioner Kotwali Zone Jahangir Alam, Sadarghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Margina Akhter and Investigation Officer of the case Ruhul Amin were present.
