Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has instructed the all International Internet gateway (IIG) to reduce 10 per cent bandwidth supply to Banglalion Communication Limited, a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA), for their huge dues to the government. The commission yesterday issued a letter to the concerned IIG to follow their instruction, sources said.
In the letter, BTRC said the BWA company Banglalion never paid their dues that is not accepted, so as per the decision the IIG, the bulk supplier of the bandwidth to the operators should reduce 10 per cent of bandwidth until further notice. Not only that if Banglalion fails to pay their dues with in October 30 the IIG will reduce another 10 per cent of bandwidth from November 01.
The government official said the BWA company has not paid any money to the government as licence and spectrum fee and the amount is Tk 100 crore .
In 2008 the army backed government issued the BWA license in the country first time which is Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access –WIMAX technology based. The license and spectrum fee was Tk 215 crore. Sources said after having the licence Bangla Lion never paid any government”s fee.
