Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), one of the country's leading development organisations, has received approval of $60 million funding from Green Climate Fund (GCF) to combat climate change.
PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said this at a round table discussion in the capital yesterday.
He said that this fund will be able to apply to those organisation’s who are working for addressing the impact of climate change through PKSF. This money can be used for the projects, programs and development activities.
He also said that this fund will be given priority to tackle the impact of climate change in haor areas.
Regarding the fund, he said it will be given priority for projects to tackle the impact of climate change in haor areas.
PKSF gives emphasis on private-public partnership and has been working with this notion, he added.
Managing Director of PKSF Abdul Karim said, “We provide non-financial loan to make sustainable poverty reduction rather than only giving microfinance loan”
“Our yearly loan disbursement is Tk 4,000 crore. We have 1 crore and 27 lakh members at this moment. Among them, 1 crore member has taken loans”, said Abdul Karim.
He mentioned that PKSF is addressing the climate vulnerable areas in Bangladesh through 200 of its Partner Organisations (POs). Interventions are being made by about 8000 branches of these POs.
PKSF chairman also said, “Four characteristics we have maintained since the inception of the organisation such as—transparency, public private partnership, rights and development and accountability”
He also said that the organisation is offering big loans instead of small loans.
PKSF is the second development organisation in Bangladesh to receive such fund from GCF.
