Indian delegation meets DU VC
A four-member delegation led by Professor Dr Md Zahidul Haque of the University of Hyderabad, India paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at his latter's office on Wednesday.
Other team members were Safdar Imam Quadri, Prof of the College of Commerce, Arts & Science, Patna, Dr Naeem Anis, head of the Department of Urdu of Calcutta Girls College and Hafiza Muzaffar, member of National Council for Promotion of Urdu, India.
Some other teachers of DU Urdu Department were present, among others, on the occasion, said a DU release.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues including the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on Urdu Language & Literature by the DU and different academic institutions in India.
World Mental Health Day observed at RU
The World Mental Health Day was observed on Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Tuesday with the theme 'Mental Health in the Workplace’.
To mark the day, Psychology department of the university chalked out different programmes.
Teachers, students and officials of the department brought out a colorful rally from in front of 2nd Science Building of the university at 9:00 am.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at seminar room of the Environment Science Institute at 11:00 am.
Director of RU Mental Health Centre Dr. Anwarul Hasan Sufi presided over the program while Associate Professor Tanzir Ahmed Tushar presented keynote paper at the seminar.
9th anniversary of Rokeya University being observed
RANGPUR: The ninth founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) is being observed amid festivity and fanfare.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah inaugurated the celebration hoisting national flag in the morning, said a press release.
Later, he placed wreaths at the portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and great woman Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain.
Professor Kalimullah led a colourful rally that paraded the campus. Deans of all six faculties, heads of all 21 departments, teaches, students, officials and employees of the university participated in procession, added the press release.
The teachers and students of different departments also took part in the Academic Fair and Blood Group Test programmes in the afternoon on the campus.
A colourful cultural function was also arranged on the occasion.
A special milad mahfil followed by offering munajat was held after Johr parlays at the Central Mosque of the university.
In the evening, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Administration Ministry HN Ashikur Rahman, MP, will attend a discussion as the chief guest. Chairman of Rangpur Zila Parisahd Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Deans of different Faculties and President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association Dr Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman will address the discussion as special guests.
Professor Dr Sharifa Salowa Dina will present an article on 'Higher
Education for Developing Human Resources' in the discussion while Professor Dr RM Hafizur Rahman will take part as the main discussant.
After the discussion, popular band parties will participate in a concert to be held on the campus at night, the release added.
24 to vie for each Khulna University seat
KHULNA: At least 24 aspirants will vie for each seat in the admission tests for the first year honours courses under 2017-18 academic session of Khulna University (KU).
A total of 29,140 candidates applied against 1,204 seats in 28 Disciplines (Departments) under six Schools and one Institute, said a press release issued by Atiar Rahman, Public Relation Officer of the university.
The online admission process for the first year honours courses of the University ended on October 9.
While talking to Atiar Rahman, he said the final list of eligible admission seekers published on Tuesday, adding that the entry test will be held on November 11 in three phases on the university campus.
On the day, the admission test for Science, Engineering and Technology School and Live Science School will be held from 8.30 am to 10.00 am under 'A' unit, while Management and Business Administration School and Social Science School from 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm under 'C' unit. The admission test for Arts and Humanity School, Law School and Fine Art Institute will be held from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm under 'B' unit.
The students have been asked for not bringing mobile phone or any electronics devices during examination.

IU Prof Habib accorded farewell reception
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Dr M Habibur Rahman, Bangla department’s professor of Islamic University (IU), was accorded a farewell reception on the campus on Tuesday.
All teachers, staffs and students of Bangla department attended the reception.
Professor Dr Goutom Kumar Das, chairman of the department, presided over the function while Professor Dr Sarwar Murshed, Professor Dr Moha Saidur Rahman, Professor M Yeasin Ali, Dr Gazi Mahbub Murshid, among others, shared their experiences with Pro Habib. According to the university registrar office sources, Professor Habibur Rahman got his self-reliant retirement on September 16, 2017.
Professor Habib joined IU Bangla department as lecturer in 1996.
