CU BCL infighting injures five

At least five activists were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit over silly matter on university campus on Wednesday night.

The injured were identified as Ahad, a student of Islamic History department, academic session is 2014-2015; Amit and Pranto, students of Shanskrit department, their academic session are 2016-2017. They were known as activists of a group named ‘CFC’ follower of Nasir Uddin Sumon, Vice president of CU BCL suspended committee.

Others were identified as Imran, student of Arabic department, academic session is 2016-2017 and Nayan, student of Shanskrit department, academic session is 2015-2016. They were known as activists of another rival group named ‘Bjioy’ follower of HM Fazly Rabbi Sujon, general secretary of CU BCL suspended committee.

All of them were known as follower of ABM Mahiuddin Chowdhury, president of port city Awami League and former port city mayor.

Sources said some of activists of the two groups were watching television in the Shohorawardi Hall. At one stage, they locked into an altercation centring television remote control. This time some activists of ‘CFC’ group beat an activist named Imran who is activist of ‘Bjioy’ group. After a while when this news spread among all followers of Fazly Rabbi, they locked in an altercation with followers of Nasir Uddin Sumon, Vice president of CU BCL suspended committee. This time they exchange stone using abusive language each other.

Md Ali Asgor Chowdhury, proctor of CU said, “After hearing this news we rushed to the spot along with police personnel to bring the situation under control. Now the situation is under control.

 “Five activists were injured in the clash. To avert further clashes additional law enforcers have been deployed on the campus,” said Md Belal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.
