Opener Sadman Islam hit a century as Bangladesh A took a 67-run lead over Ireland A on the second day of the four-day unofficial Test yesterday at Sylhet International Stadium.
Before the bails were drawn for day two, Bangladesh reached 322 for six in reply to Ireland A’s 255 in the first innings. Sadman scored a patient 108 off 219, clattering 15 fours.
Sadman’s century was complemented by skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto 69 as the duo shared a 137-run partnership after Bangladesh lost opener Zakir Hossain for 1 on day one.
Resuming the day on 38 for one, they looked to destine for a big total but Shanto was dismissed against the play, hitting seven fours in an innings that lasted for 135 balls.
The second string Bangladesh team was in troublesome situation when Al-Amin Hossain, a promising batsman was out on naught. Sadman and Yasir Ali took the onus to bail the side out of danger and they combined for a 69-run for the fourth wicket before Yasir was removed on 35.
Sadman then reached his century but soon got out on 108 when Bangladesh was 13 runs away surpass the total of the visitors.
Nurul Hasan Sohan then played a gutsy knock to help Bangladesh take a lead. He got an ably support from Mehedi Hasan Sujon who scored 35. Sohan was not out on 51 off 98 balls, hitting five fours.
Fast bowler Nathan Smith and off-spinner Andy McBrine picked up two wickets apiece for Ireland A.
