The election of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held on October 31 as the five-member election panel, led by chief election commissioner (CEC) Omar Faruk, the joint secretary of youth and sports, announced the schedule yesterday.
The BCB amended its constitution through the EGM and AGM on October 2 after which it was approved by the National Sports Council, making the board election-bound.
The last executive meeting of the board then was held on October 5, in which a five-member election commission was formed with youth and sports secretary Asadul Islam as the CEC. Some legal problems however forced the board change the top post as Omar Faruk came as the new CEC that was approved by the NSC on October 10.
The five-member committee then finally consisted of Md Omar Faruk, ndc (Joint Secretary Sports, Ministry of Youth & Sports) as the chief election Commissioner while other four members of the election commission are Md Ekramul Hoque (Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh Supreme Court), Md Sukur Ali (Director Planning & Development, NSC), and Barrister Fahimul Huq and BCB chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
Throughout the day the possible date of the election was discussed around the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium arena and just before the dusk, the CEC announced the schedule.
The newly formed five-member Election Commission held a nearly daylong meeting at the SBNS except the BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, who is currently busy attending the ICC meeting. The office of the election commission is now in the first floor of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from which all the activities of the election will be held.
Omar Faruk said they will be holding the election under the constitution that was approved in the last BCB AGM and EGM.
‘It will be held under the guideline of the newly approved constitution of BCB (2017),’ Faruk told reporters at the crowded press conference at SBNS.
The election procedure will begin with the draft voter list published on October16 and the objection and the hearing of the objection taking place on October17 while on the same day the final voter list will be published . The candidates will be able to collect their nomination papers on October 20 and the last date for submitting nomination papers will be October 24, the scrutiny of nomination papers and the disclosure of the final candidates list will take place on October 25. The hearing and objection on nomination paper will be held on October28 while the last date for candidate’s intent on withdrawing from the election will have on October 29.
