Defending Champions Abahani Limited again dropped valuable points in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday when they ended their 10th round match a one all draw with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. After the draw, they remained on second position with 21 points along with the Sheikh Jamal when the Chittagong Abahani are five points ahead of them.
Nabib Newaj Jibon led Abahani early in the second half and Jahid Oervej Chowdhury leveled it for Jamal in the dying minute of the match.
On the day Abahani, demonstrated a good brand of passing football throughout 90 minutes time, specially, in the first half they played with full command.
Abahani could have taken a clear lead when their three attempts, twice from Nanbib Jibon with one and one situation with the goalkeeper and Rubel Mea’s effort hit the cross piece.
Jibon wasted the first opportunity came to Abahani ways on 19th minute when he had the ball possession inside the area but his header was straight to keeper Mitul Hossain.
Second one was a beautiful move with exchanging passes with Emon Babu but this time Jibon was a bit late to short the ball into post and Jamal keeper closed gap to halt the effort on 38th minute.
In the dying minute of the first half it was the third attempt when Rubel Mea’s header hit the cross piece.
Abahani continued their pressure and after the goalless opening 45 minutes the holders went ahead on 57th minute when after missing chance after chance, Jibon finally found the net with a close range header when a Wali Faisal’s cross dropped inside the box and the forward net the ball with a gentle header (1-0).
Jamal were almost handed an equalizer as they looked better in the last few minutes of the second half but Maodou Bah’s attempt just went over the cross bar on 82nd.
It was huge controversy on 83rd minute when Abahani goalkeeper Sohel failed to grip a Raphael’s shot and Mamodo Bah’s touch seemingly crossed the goal-line but referee was not in a position to observe that perfectly.
Jamal coach Joseph Afusi strongly demanded for goal decision but referee did not pay any attention and the coach left the ground.
But the Jamal’s boys despite struggling and were busy to deal with strong attacks from Abahani for most of the 90 minutes game, stunned the Sky-Blue with equalizing the margin creating storming pressure in the last few minutes to snatch a point.
It was just final two minutes of the second half added time substitute Jahid Pervej lashing a shot on the turn after hitting a defender of Mamoudou Bah’s right footer that went into the corner of the far post (1-1).
