A huge fresh entry of Rohingyas into Bangladesh through Palongkhali border point in Ukhia upazila was reported yesterday, reports UNB. Palongkhali union parishad member Sultan Ahmed said they saw a large number of Myanmar nationals crossing the border into Bangladesh through the border point.
A senior official at the district administration, wishing anonymity, told UNB that over 10,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh today alone and there is a huge gathering of Rohingyas along the border waiting to cross into Bangladesh.
However, a district intelligence official who also spoke on condition of anonymity told UNB that he had information that some 5,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh this morning alone.
However, no government or non-government organisation confirmed the huge influx of the Rohingyas.
Locals said the Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh freshly hail from Kawar Beel, Bhuchidang and Rashidang areas of Maungdaw in Rakhine State.
Quoting the Rohingyas, Sultan Ahmed said they crossed the border on foot after their long arduous journey of about one week.
The new arrivals have taken shelter in camps set up in Baghghona of Palongkhali. Meanwhile, two Rohingya children died soon after their arrival, Sultan added.
