An agreement between Supreme Courts of Russia and Bangladesh has been signed yesterday to extend mutual cooperation on areas of e- judiciary and judicial management systems. Visiting Russian Chief Justice Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev and Bangladesh’s acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries during a meeting at the Judge’s Lounge in Supreme Court.
Speaking at the function, acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah said the ties between Dhaka and Moscow recently reached a new height, attributing the development to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's efforts.
He mentioned that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited Moscow in 1972 to express his gratitude for the Russian support in 1971 and founding the pillar of (bilateral) friendship.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took it to a new height (and) Russia is now a significant partner in our financial development," he said.
Among others, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Russian
ambassador in Dhaka were present on the occasion. Later, the Russian chief justice watched trial proceedings at the Supreme Court's Appellate Division and held a meeting with Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
The two chief justices planted two ‘Bakul’ tree saplings in the Supreme Court garden.
A four-member delegation led by Lebedev reached Dhaka Sunday on a three-day visit.
