The authorities concerned are yet to complete land acquisition for Payra Sea Port due to various complications, including fixing of land price, it is learnt. Shipping minister Shajahan Khan yesterday (Monday) directed the authorities to complete the land acquisition process immediately.
According to sources, 6,239 acres of land would be needed for the Payra Sea Port infrastructure development. Only 220.63 acres have been acquired so far, the sources said.
“The authorities have failed to acquire the land as the price is higher than that fixed by the government. Owners are unwilling to sell their land at lower prices,” an official of the Payra Sea Port Authority (PSPA) told this correspondent on condition that he not be named.
A meeting on development, economic and administration of the PSPA was held at the Secretariat, with the shipping minister in the chair.
The PSPA told the meeting that only 220.63 acres were received from the local authorities.
The government has already approved 1,543.44 acres for the port, while 1,563.85
acres are under process with the land
ministry, it said.
About 2,931.84 acres are under process at the Patuakhali deputy commissioner's office.
According to the meeting, the administrative building is being constructed on 16 acres and 70 per cent of the work has already been completed.
“The authorities concerned must complete the land acquisition process for the Payra Sea Port immediarely,” Shajahan Khan told this correspondent.
The shipping ministry's additional secretary, Shahadat Hossain, PSPA chairman Commodore Jahangir Alam, PSPA member (harbour and marine) Commodore M Saidur Rahman and other senior officials, among others, attended the meeting.
