Students of DU affiliated colleges put off stir after VC assurance

Students of seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University (DU) yesterday (Monday) postponed their movement till November 30, after DU vice-chancellor (VC) assured them that results of the final-year honours would be published within November. A delegation of the seven colleges met the VC, Prof. Md Akhtaruzzaman, in his office at noon.
After the meeting, Foyzur Rahman of the management department of Kabi Nazrul College told reporters: Among our five-point demand, publishing results of the final-year honours for the session 2011-12 is the main. The VC assured us that the results would be published by November. That is why we postponed our movement till November 30.
When asked, the DU VC said: Yes, we assured the students that the results would be published by November. We will try to take measures regarding the other demands by cooperating with the National University.
The other demands are, publication of the second- and fourth-year exam results, announcement of the exam schedule for the third year, a new academic calendar and a separate website for all the seven colleges.
The seven DU affiliated colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College. On Sunday, students blocked the New Market intersection in support of their five-point demand. Vehicular movement through Nilkhet and New Market came to a standstill, causing a severe gridlock on adjacent roads and immense sufferings to city dwellers.
