BCB seeks councilors’ name by Oct 15

The seventh election of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to be held on November 15 but the board is going through some administrative problem in this regard, said incumbent president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

A week ago, the executive committee of the BCB formed a five-member Election Commission with the secretary of the Youth and Sports Asadul Islam as its chief.

The five-member committee that also includes a representative from the Attorney General’s office, a representative of the National Sports Council (NSC), Barrister Faheemul Huq, Legal Advisor, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer, the board will make all the necessary arrangements for holding the BCB polls. The four-year tenure of the current executive committee expires on October 17. However the problem is revolving around the chief election commissioner Asadul Isalm.

“There is some legal complexity with the secretary of the youth and sports who is made chief election commissioner,” Papon said without elaborating. “It’ll take time to solve the matter. If it is solved in time, then there is no problem but if not, we’ll think about the alternative.”

The BCB however has already sent the letter asking the councillorship from the divisional and district, clubs, players and NSC quota. The concerned authority should send the councilor’s name by October 15.
