As Bangladesh is all gearing up to start its lucrative T20 competition in less than a months time from now, the country’s premier T20 competition has already landed itself in a legal tussle over Global Broadcasting Rights, according to R C Vengkatesh, CEO of Lex Sportel.
Bangladesh Premier League’s worldwide broadcast and distribution rights holder Impress Mattra Consortium has landed itself in a legal tussle over Global Broadcasting rights with DSport (A TV channel owned by Discovery Networks Asia Pacific Pte Ltd). The Worldwide broadcast rights holder Impress Mattra Consortium had earlier entered into a legal contract of over 180 million Taka deal to be paid over three years with DSport on September 22nd, 2017 to further acquire the Global TV, Mobile, Internet and Digital broadcast rights through the globe except Bangladesh.
In an unprecedented move Impress Mattra Consortium and its representative . Sanaul Arefeen has now backtracked on the legal contract and have gone incommunicado with DSport representatives in India. In this regard DSport has sent a legal notice to representatives of Impress Mattra Consortium, Impress Telefilms Ltd. and Mattra along with a copy to Bangladesh Cricket Board, asking the Impress Matra Consortium to honor the contract or face further legal action. DSport has also written to Nizamuddin Chowdhury CEO BCB and Afzalur Rahman Sinha Chairman BPL to intervene to ensure that the great reputation of Bangladesh Cricket is not sullied by the actions of the Impress Matra Consortium.
At a time when Bangladesh cricket and the lucrative Bangladesh Premier League is on an upward swing, legal hurdles like these are only going to dampen the future prospect of a beautiful competition like this and also put Bangladesh Cricket Boards credibility at stake on a global platform.
