The government’s Access to Information (a2i) programme is now working to brand each district of the country before the world through focusing three areas - tourism, product and notable initiative, reports BSS.

“Each district of Bangladesh has some specialties. Some districts are good for tourism while some others for any special product or food and some for any notable initiative undertaken for public welfare,” Director General (administration) of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Kabir Bin Anwar told the news agency.

He said the district-branding is such an action plan for the development of its distinct and potential by involving all sections of the people by taking into consideration history, heritage, tradition and culture of that particular area.

“We want to uphold everything before the world to develop all districts as well as the country,” he added.

Anwar, also Project Director of the a2i, mentioned that the district-branding has unveiled a new horizon of economic possibilities by creating massive workplaces in all districts.

“The District-branding initiatives will be successful by the collective efforts and participation of all and the country will establish itself as a developed Bangladesh before the world,” he added.

Director (E-service) of a2i Dr M Abdul Mannan said the a2i has taken the initiative to make the country developed by 2041 through the participation of all deputy commissioners and the people under the supervision of the divisional commissioners.

“To implement the initiative, ministries, agencies and organisations related to the branding materials are involved in this programme. Under the supervision of the cabinet division, the programme is being implemented,” he added.

Describing the implementation progress of the programme, he said, the a2i has already selected the branding materials, logo and tagline of every district and conducted workshop and video conferencing in each district.

“Each district is also preparing their respective brand book. Six books have already been published and ten books are awaiting publishing,” Mannan added.

“Comilla is an old and one of the biggest districts in the country with a glorious history and tradition. There are many historic sites and places and along with specialised food that attract a huge number tourists from home and abroad,” said Deputy Commissioner of Comilla M Jahangir Alam.

Different historical places like Kotbari, Shalban Vihara in Mainamati, Dharma Sagar and War Cemetery are situated in the district, he said adding that a sweet shop, named Matri Vandar, is also famous for the mouthwatering Rosmalai. The locally textured Khadi textile is a traditional cloth being produced in Comilla for decades.

“We are upholding Comilla before the world through tourist spots, delicious food and Khadi textile,” he added.

“We want to present the Feni district before the world on tourism as there are many historically and economically important places in the district, like Muhuri Barrage, Belonia Land Port and Bijoy Singh Dighi,” Said Deputy Commissioner of the Feni Manoj Kumar Roy.
