‘A’ unit exam of JU entrance ends
The admission test of ‘A’ unit under Mathematical Sciences Faculty of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under session 2017-18 ended yesterday.
The two-day-long test of this unit was held through 9 shifts while a total of 65,608 candidates were contested against 435 seats at this unit.
About at 10.30 am, JU Vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam came to visit the examination halls including Business Studies Faculty and Old Arts building and expressed satisfaction about the examination as no unwanted situation appeared there.
JU Pro VC Professor Abul Hossain (Academic), Treasurer Professor Sheikh Monjurul Huq and Dean of Social Science Faculty Professor Mozammel Haque were also present there.
Meanwhile, Director of Institute of Information and Technology also the member of Admission Test Management Committee A K M Akkas Ali said ‘The attendance rate was satisfactory as approximately 88 per cent students took part at the A unit test’.
The result of this unit exam will be available from today (late-night) on the official website www.juniv.edu, he added.
Entry test of ‘D’ unit under Biological Sciences Faculty will start today.

Int’l Urdu Conference begins at DU
A two-day international conference titled “Urdu in the Contemporary World” yesterday began at RC Mazumder Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest, said a DU release in Dhaka yestedray.
DU Urdu Department organised the inaugural session of the conference.
Convener of Conference Organizing Committee Prof Dr Zafar Ahmed Bhuiyan presided over the inaugural function while Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Sajahan Miah addressed it as special guest.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Secretary of Conference Organizing Committee Prof Dr Md Israfil and Co-Convener of the committee Prof Md Mahmudul Islam. Academicians and researchers from different universities of Bangladesh and India are participating in the conference, the release added.
DU VC Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for making intellectual interaction among the people of various languages to upgrade our education and research.
This conference would play an important role to enhance the quality of researchers, he added.

Workshop on 3D Printing Technology held at RU
A day long workshop on “3D Printing Technology” was held at Rajshahi University (RU) on Thursday.
Department of Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) of the university organised the programme at Senate Bhaban on the campus.
RU VC Professor M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest.
Pro-VC Professor Dr Ananda Kumar Saha, dean of the Engineering faculty Professor Dr Md. Mamunur Rashid, among others, attended the occasion. The participants were conferred certificates at ending of the workshop.  

Faculty workshop held at NDUB
Notre Dame University Bangladesh organised a workshop for the faculties of the university on  Friday entitled “Plagiarism and Safeguarding Policy” conducted by Professor Nazmeen Haq, Department of English, University of Dhaka,  and Professor Tahmina Ahmed, Department of English, University of Dhaka respectively, says a press release.   
Registrar and Chairman of English Department Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC welcomed the guests and faculties.
The special guests of the event, the two speakers- Prof Nazmeen Huq and Prof Tahmina Ahmed, have been given reception.
After the newly appointed Vice-chancellor Father Fr Patrick Gaffney, CSC introduced the faculties and  discussed the importance of the chosen topic for the workshop, Professor Nazmeen Haq started the workshop discussing on how to avoid plagiarism in academic life, policies against plagiarism and solution to this problem. Prof Nazmeen begins with the definition of 'plagiarism'.

Netaji Subhas Open University, Khulna University sign MoU
To carry out an international research project titled “Mapping Partition Memory, Amnesia & Literature in Middle and Southern Bengal: An Indo-Bangladesh Perspective”, English Discipline of Khulna University signed an MOU with the Centre for Language Translation and Cultural Studies (CLTCS) of Netaji Subhas Open University, Kolkata recently, says a press release.
Professor Dr Sabiha Huq, the head of English Discipline and Dr Manan Kumar Mandal, the coordinator of CLTCS signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions, while Professor Dr Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman and Srideep Mukherjee acted as witnesses for English Discipline and CLTCS respectively.
Meanwhile, the Vice-chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr Fayek Uzzaman expressed his hope that the MOU would play an important part in enhancing the cooperation between the two universities.
