Body found in  mosque

Moulvibazar: The body of an unidentified man was recovered from a mosque near Kalighat tea estate in Srimangal upazila of the district yesterday, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station KM Nazrul Islam said locals found the body of the man, aged about 55, hanging at the veranda of the mosque around 7:30 am.

On information, police recovered the body and sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he said.

10,000 yaba tablets seized

JESSORE: Detective Branch of police seized 10,000 yaba tablets from a truck and arrested two persons in this connection in Laojani Gazir Dargaon area under Sadar upazila yesterday, reports BSS.

The detainees are Kamrul, 37, and Sumun, 35.

DB police said being informed they intercepted a truck in Laojani Gazir Dargaon area on Jessore-Benapole road and arrested them with the yaba tablets. DB police also seized the truck.

A case was filed in this connection.

Thunderbolt kills youth

SYLHET: A young man died and his father injured as a thunderbolt hit them in Osmaninagar upazila of the district early yesterday, reports BSS.

The deceased was identified as Shahin Mia, 24, was a resident at Naogaon village of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Osmaninagar police station Shahid Ullah said the thunderbolt hit them early morning when they were catching fish in haor area of the upazila.

8 members of cattle thief gang held

Chuadanga: Police in separate drives arrested eight cattle thieves including their ring leader Badar Uddin from Chuadanga and Kushtia districts on Friday night, reports UNB.

The arrestees are identified as Sunnat, 50, aresident of Taltola village of Chuadanga municipal area, Laltu, 30, of Haq Para, Dulal, 32, of Farmpara, Aroj Ali, 45, of Muktipara, Dilon, 28, of Muktarpur village of Damurhuda Upazila, Tahaz Uddin, 40, of Khapara, Toroj, 30, a resident of Bisnopur village and Badar Uddin, 52, of Sadarpur village.

Officer-in-Charge of Dhamurhuda Police Station Abu Zihad said on secret information, they conducted the drives in Kushtia and Chuadanga on Friday night and arrested the thieves including their key leader Badar Uddin.

Chuadanga Police Superintendent Mahbubur Rahman said the search operation will continue to arrest the other cattle thieves in the area.

One held with 6 lakh Indian rupees at Benapole

Customs officials arrested a Bangladeshi national along with six lakh Indian rupees from Benapole check post area yesterday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Yakub Ali Mina, 40, a resident of Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj.

Jakir Hossain, additional commissioner of Benapole customs house, said tipped-off a team of Benapole customs officials conducted a drive in the check post area around 9:00 am and arrested Yakub.

Later, they recovered six lakh Indian rupees after searching his body.

A case was filed.

Mother, son electrocuted   

Khagrachhari: A woman and her son were electrocuted and three of their family members were injured at Betchhari area of Dighinala upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Kalamile Chakma, 45, and her son Satyajiban Chakma.

Parban Chakma, on-duty doctor of Dighinala Health Complex, said that Kalamile and her son were electrocuted around 11:30 pm after a live electric wire snapped on the roof of their house, leaving her dead on the spot.

Three of their family members received injuries in the incident.

Minor girl raped in Sherpur   

Sherpur: A student of class three was violated allegedly by a man in Charsherpur of Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.

Victim's mother said Jasim Uddin, a resident of the same village who is a father of two children chased the 11-year girl while she was returning from a local market in the afternoon and forcibly took her in a paddy field. Later, he raped her. After being rescued by locals, the victim was taken to her house.
