Padatik Natya Sangsad stages ‘Gohonjatra’ today

Padatik Natya Sangsad (TSC), one of the popular theatre troupes in the country, will stage their much-acclaimed play ‘Gohonjatra’ today at 7 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. The play will be brought to the stage as a part of the ongoing sixth edition of the ten-day theatre festival titled ‘Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival’. The play has been penned down by Rubayet Ahmed and directed by Sudip Chakraborty, while the hour-long monologue is enacted by Shamsi Ara Syka. The story of the play evolves around the dangers of intolerance, violence, global political dynamics and the universal aspiration for peace and freedom.

In the story of the play, extremism grows in one place of a country. The followers of the extremism negate the existing ideologies and indulge in destruction and violence. The protagonist of the play, Salma has managed to flee captivity, but returns to bury the dead and mourns her dead partner who has been brutally killed by extremists. She is unable to escape the clutches of her oppressors. Through her death, she stands up for the good to reign supreme on earth.

On the other hand, Dokkhin Ruchirongo from Kolkata will bring their play ‘Borno Porichoy’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA at the same time.

Before staging the plays at 4pm, street play by Bangla Natyadal and Muktamancha Nirbak Dal, recitation by the Boikuntha Abrity Academy and Abrity Academy, Music rendition by Swabhumi and Somoswar, and dance performance by Nrityam Nrityashilon Kendra will be held on the open yard of BSA.
