Bangladesh ‘A’ to play for winning against Ireland

Sports Reporter

Ireland ‘A’ cricket team arrived here in Dhaka to play a string of games of two different formats against Bangladesh ‘A’ cricket team yesterday.

The tour comprised of one-off four-dayer along with five-matches one day series, starting from October 11.

Both Bangladesh and Ireland will travel to Sylhet, one of the host cities of the tour, whereby they will play four-dayer coupled with the opening match of the ODI series. They will stay in Sylhet till October 17.

Since then, they will fly for Cox’s Bazar as the rest of the matches will be hosted by Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) and its academy ground in Cox’s Bazar.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meanwhile announced their 13-member ‘A’ team squad for the four-day match. Nazmul Hossain Shanto will lead the home side against the visiting Irish side.

The second string team of the Tigers will face off its Irish counterparts after taking a three-day preparation led by head coach Champaka Ramanayake. The first session was held at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground yesterday.

A total of five players including wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan, pacer Abu Haider Rony, spin all-rounder Sunzamul Islam, leg-spinner Jubair Hossain Likhon and pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi who have playing experience for the national team, are in the team.

Bangladesh ‘A’ team captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto said that they will play against Ireland for winning each game.

“Firstly we have a four-day match and then five one-day matches. We’ll play for winning each game. We have plans to evolve the series match by match and that’s our main game plan,” said Nazmul Hossain.

“We’ve no extra plan. The way we played games in HP we will try to play here in that vein. We’ve no pressure on us. We’ll try to play pressureless games and normal games,” Shanto told media during a break of their first day practice session yesterday.

When asked about the opposition, the youngster said that he doesn’t underestimate Ireland as the opponent.

Head coach Champaka Ramanayake shared the same sentiment, stating that the games will be helpful for the guys.

“It’s the first day of practice. There was first class cricket here. We have three days practice and then we’ll go for selection of the final squad for the four-day game tomorrow. We got just three days practice but I am quite happy because they have played cricket. The big game for them is four day game because playing at different condition is good. Hopefully we do well,” Champaka Ramayake said.
