DU classes resume today
Classes at the Dhaka University (DU) will resume today after autumn, Holy Ashura, Durga Puja and other vacations. The classes remained stopped from September 27 to October 5, according to a press release.
 As Friday and Saturday were weekly holidays, the classes of the university will resume Sunday, it added.

57th founding anniversary of BAU celebrated
Teachers, students and staffs of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Saturday celebrated the 57th founding anniversary of the university with much enthusiasm. Marking the day, the university authorities chalked out a day-long programme including colorful rally, discussion, farmers’ gatherings, display of different technologies developed by BAU researchers and a cultural show.
Kept the slogan ‘Shikkha-Gobesonaay Desher Sera, Khaddo-Pusti Nirapotta Debo Mora’ in front, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the programme by releasing white pigeons and balloons in front of the helipad premises of the campus.
Later, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises that marched all important roads of the campus and ended at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of BAU where a discussion meeting was also held.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid attended the programme as the chief guest while religious affairs minister Principal Matiur Rahman attended as the guest of honour.
Krishibid Abdul Mannan, MP also the syndicate member of the university attended the programme as the special guest.
BAU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Ali Akbar was the chief patron of the programme.
Emeritus Professor of BAU Professor Dr. M A Sattar Mandal presented the keynote topic titled ‘Achievements of BAU and related thoughts’.
Highlighting the contribution of BAU in building hunger free nation the education minister said, quality graduates should be produced to build modern and developed Bangladesh. In it, BAU can play a vital role.
In the evening, a cultural programme was held at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium. An auditorium full audience enjoyed the programme.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Agricultural University Photographic Society (BAUPS) on Friday arranged a photography exhibition highlighting BAU through pictures. BAU VC inaugurated the exhibition. Marking the day, important buildings and places are decorated with colorful lights and banners.
Bangladesh Agricultural University started its journey on August 18, 1961.

Death threat on JU Pro -VC protested
The death threat on the Pro vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Professor Amir Hussain was protested Friday on the campus.
About at 3 pm, around 300 registered graduates of the university under the banner of ‘Bangabandhur Adorsho O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Registered Graduates’ formed a human chain in front of Zahir Raihan auditorium protesting the death threat on JU Pro VC.  Speakers at the programme demanded the identification of the culprits immediately and ensured their punishment and declared to go for tougher movement it their demands are not fulfilled.  Former JU VC Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir, JU Pro VC Amir Hussain (Administration), Pro VC Abul Hossain (Academic) and a fraction of teachers’ community of the university were took part among others.
Earlier, JU Pro VC Professor Dr. Amir Hussain received a death threat on his cell phone on October 3. After this incident, on behalf of Pro VC, Security officer of the university Md. Jefrul Hasan Chowdhury filed a General Diary (GD) at Ashulia Police Station on the next day.

Shadow UN conference starts at RU
A 4-day long 4th shadow United Nations conference started on Friday at Rajshahi University (RU) and will be continued October 9 with the theme ‘Flourishing youth as resources for contributing in SDG through innovation, leadership and social security.”
United Nations Youth and Student Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) Rajshahi divisional unit organised the event. Delegates from around 40 universities across the country joined the programme. RU Vice-chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the programme at Senate Babhan around 10am as cheif guest with releasing balloons.
