Joint drives sentenced and fined 36 fishermen in Barisal district on Friday.
Bimal Chandra Das, district fisheries officer (Hilsa), said they detained them on Thursday night to Friday noon from different areas under Sadar, Hizla and Muladi upazilas of Barisal while netting hilsa defying ban on Kirtankhola, Arial Kha, Meghna, Kalabadar rivers.
Later the detained accused placed before the concerned mobile courts led by upazila nirbahi officers of Barisal Sadar, Hizla, Muladi and assistant commissioners (land) of Sadar.
Later the accused were sentenced to one month’s jail.
Bellal Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal marine-police station, said during this raid 45 thousand meters of fishing nets and 135 kg hilsa were also seized.
The seized fishes distributed among the orphanages and religious institutions.
