Bangladesh eager to play under floodlight in Asia Cup

Russel Mahmud Jimmy and Co. are excited to play under newly installed floodlight when they are eagerly waiting to play the Asian Hockey Cup at their home ground to start from October 11 with top eight Asian nations will compete in the tournament. Jimmy, captain of the Bangladesh side when talked in the press conference of ‘jersey unveiling ceremony’ yesterday at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium at Bangladesh Olympic Association, said, "It is not any problem to play in under floodlight, as we have experiences, we played so many international matches, but truly we are very much excited to play under floodlights at our own ground for the first time.”

Russel about the aspiration and their targets said, “It’s a long interval that we are going to play a tough level competition at home ground, our target is to play competitive match against every opponent. I can tell that we are ready to put forward our efforts, according to our capability. If we will fail, all will be disappointed. My message to every of my team-mate that we will have to prove our potential in the field.”

“It is something encouraging for us that early of this year we played some international matches (World Hockey League and practice matches in China) where we performed well against stronger opponents, though we lost,” Jimmy replied to a query.

Coach Mahbub Harun also said about their target and preparations – “We are ready to play the tournament, in last 20 days practice session we worked with game plan and tried to motivate the boys.”

“My instruction to the boys, not to lose the match before  play a match. We want to throw challenges to the mighty opponents.”  

“Our main target to improve our position, we are taking part in the tournament as the last ranked among eight teams, may be we are going to face the giants like Pakistan, India and Japan.”

Meanwhile will see a setback before t the start of the tournament when they will miss one of the key performers Sarwar Hossain while he will not available in the tournament, as he was suspended by the AHF for five matches due to unplayable manners during the World Hockey League early this year.

Abdus Sadeque, general secretary of the BHF said, “We heard on yesterday (Wednesday) night that Sarwar could not play in whole tournament when earlier it was known to me that his suspension was for only three matches.”

Mahbub Harun also echoed with the general secretary. BHF President Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, who is also the chief of Bangladesh Air Force, was also present on the occasion in his speech tried to motivate the players.
