Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that they have formed a five-member election commission for the next BCB election and then sent it to the National Sports Council (NSC) for their approval.   The four-year tenure of the current executive committee led by its president Nazmul Hassan will be ended on October 17. As per the requirement of International Cricket Council and the directives of the High Court, the country’s cricket apex body is taking their preparation for the poll.

As a part of it, the executive committee members of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday sat an emergency board meeting at the board room of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), in where they have decided to form a five-member election commission led by secretary of the ministry of youth and sports Mohammad Asadul Islam for the next BCB election.

“We’re seeking sports secretary as the chief election commissioner and the board unanimously approved it. There will be a representative of National Sport Council (NSC), another representative of Attorney General’s office, Barrister Faheemul Huq as legal adviser and BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhruy with the chief election commissioner. It will be done after NSC’s approval,” said Nazmul Hassan.

“The commission will be finalized if the NSC gave their nod. Thereafter, they will announce a date for the election. They will decide how manner the election will be held,” Papon told media at a press briefing after coming out from the last official meeting of the current committee.

“We have nothing to say here. What we will do is that we will seek the names of councilors. What is always happening,” he added.

The board earlier held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Extra-ordinary General Meeting (EGM) on October 2 to pass the new constitution of the BCB after the High Court verdict.

Therefore, they sent the amended constitution to NSC for approval. After getting NSC’s approval, the BCB president held the last formal board meeting before his departure for ICC Board Meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, scheduled to be October 9.
