Three to die for killing woman after rape

Narsingdi: A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced three people to death for killing a woman after rape in 2015, reports UNB. The convicts are Sultan Miah alias Jamai Sultan, 35, son of Hossain Ali, Shafiqul Islam Sharif, 32, son of Ali Hossain of Kishoreganj district, and Osman Goni, 34, son of Motalib of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi district.

The court also sentenced them to seven years’ imprisonment on another count and fined Tk 1 lakh to Sultan, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment while the others to Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer, three months more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, police recovered the body of Mahmuda Akter, 28, daughter of Billal Hossain of Nandail upazila in Mymensingh district, from Kalagachhia area in Shibpur upazila on February 2, 2015.

After investigation, police arrested three people. Later, they confessed to killing the woman after rape.

After examining the records and witnesses, Narsingdi Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict.
