Expecting mother killed over dowry in Gaibandha

A pregnant housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband over dowry at Khanabari village in Sundarganj upazila early yesterday, reports UNB from Gaibandha.
The deceased was identified as Nasima Akter, wife of Ashraful Islam of the village.
Local people said Ashraful and Nasima got married one year back and later Nasima became pregnant. Ashraful used to torture Nasima over dowry since after their marriage.
On Thursday night, Ashraful picked up a quarrel with his wife over the issue and at one stage he beat up Nasima mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, Ashraful hanged the body of Nasima with the ceiling of their house to make it appear as a suicide case.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue.
Mozammel Haue, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station, said police suspected that Nasima killed herself by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room.
A general diary was lodged in this connection.
