Visiting Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has offered to export more power from India. “For the last two years, India has been exporting power to Bangladesh and there is scope to import more. Bangladesh can take the benefit of importing power from India as there is available power,” he said while addressing the India-Bangladesh business meeting organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) at a city hotel yesterday (Tuesday).
“The trade gap between India and Bangladesh will be reduced as two economic zones are being established in Bangladesh,” he added. He emphasised regional connectivity and infrastructure development for integrated economic development of the two nations, as the culture and aspirations of the people are similar.
He appreciated the growing economy of Bangladesh as it has been achieving over 6 per cent GDP growth over the years. Jaitley said Bangladeshi investors can invest in India as it has reformed its investment policy and opened it for all. He also said huge foreign investments have come to India due to the reformed investment policy. “I am hopeful of resolving pending issues of trade between the two countries,” he added.
