Fugitive Tangail mayor chargesheeted in arms case

DB police of Tangail submitted charge-sheet against three persons, including fugitive mayor of Tangail municipality and Awami League leader Shaidur Rahman Khan Mukti, in arms case.
The charges are possessing of arms and ammunition, supply and control them illegally, said IO Nazmul Hasan. 11 persons have been enlisted as witness.
Sub-Inspector of Tangail DB Police Nazmul Hasan submitted the charge-sheet to Judicial Magistrate Court in Tangail on Wednesday. The others charge-sheeted persons are Kader Joarder of village Porabari and Nasir Uddin Nuru close associates of mayor Mukti.
OC of Tangail DB Police Golam Mahfuzur Rahman said on a tip off, DB police arrested Kader Joarder on July 30 from Tangail town. As per his confession DB police recovered two sophisticated foreign made pistols, three bullets, three magazines and a sharp knife.
Kader confessed that the arms and ammunitions were given to him by the body guard of the mayor Nasir Uddin Nuru in presence of the mayor few months ago at mayor’s Tangail residence.
DB police lodged the case accusing the three. OC Golam Mahfuzur Rahman said earlier police arrested Punam, a relative of mayor Mukti on December 27 with four illegal arms and submitted charge-sheet against mayor’s younger brothers -- Zahidur Rahman Khan Kakon and ex-VP of central BCL Saniat Khan Bappa and Punam.
