The performance of the Bangladesh cricket team against the South Africa in the first Test at Potchefstroom especially in the second innings after the toss blunder has been criticized from all the fronts.

Even though the defeat was inevitable for the visitors, the critics coupled with the fans of the Tigers at home and abroad had expected a bit better fighting attitude from their beloved team.

Habibul Bashar Sumon, member of the BCB selection panel and former Bangladesh captain said that the criticism they heard from all the sides that proved Bangladesh cricket progressed a lot than the past.

He also said that if they could score 400 or plus in the first innings before the second innings the discussion would then be different.

“This is very good sign because after losing to South Africa, we all told that we should do better against the Proteas,” said Habibul Bashar.

“In past when the team did worse result then criticism would not be done enough. But now the criticism is being done much, that’s meant or proved that we play better cricket. We and our players understood that they should have played a bit better if they could do it, the discussion will then be different totally,” Sumon told media yesterday.

“We didn’t do well in the second innings but if we could score 400 in place of 320 in the first innings it would since be different also,” he added.

The BCB selection panel member said that every batsman and bowler have to play with responsibility and then it is possible to do better result in Test cricket.

“Pace bowlers have to come back definitely. In Test, the first five batsmen and first four bowlers are taken to make more runs and bowl well alongside take more wickets. Those who are in the team if they could work their respective duties and play for the team, the success of the team will then come,” the former captain viewed.

The second and last Test of the two-match series will be held at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, from October 6. The Tigers are preparing themselves for the second Test.

Fast bowler Rubel Hossain, is always good on bouncy track, delayed to join the team and missed to play the practice match. He might be seen in the second Test.

“The five fast bowlers we have in our battery all are very good bowlers. But we should not assess any player or bowler by just one Test match,” he thought.

When asked about any possibility of playing a left-arm spinner, Bashar said that it hinges on the wicket and condition what the team management will decide after witnessing the matters.

“It depends on how the wicket is,” he said, adding that the team management will take the decision after watching the wicket. Many more talks have been held surrounding the first Test. But you have to admit that the recent performance of Mehedi Hasan Miraj was good. For this, Miraj has been taken for the first Test. To see the wicket and condition in South Africa, the team management will decide, is there any need to bring a left-arm spinner.”

After the end of the Test series, Bangladesh will face off the top-flight South Africa in the three-match one-day series wherein Bangladesh have a good track record whether it is home or abroad condition.

“We’re deceived by the condition in South Africa in the first Test. But you all know that how our one-day squad will be. Mashrafe will join. Shakib Al Hasan will also join. I don’t see any big change in the squad. Those who played the last international tournament will get opportunity to play in the one-day series. Let see what the team management does,” he said.

The Tigers squad for the one-day series will be announced within the next four to five days.
