CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced six persons to different terms imprisonment in connection with robbery case in Sitakunda upazila of the district nearly two ages back, reports BSS.
The court also acquitted one person as the charges brought against him could not be proved.
The 5th court of Chittagong Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nur - e -Alam handed down the verdict awarding Abul Kashem and Badsha Mia to life term imprisonment and fined TaKa 10,000 each in default to suffer one more year imprisonment.
The court also sentenced four others to ten years jail and fined Taka 10,000 each in default to suffer one month more imprisonment.
However, all the accused remained fugitive while the judge delivered the verdict.
Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Lokman Hossain said the prosecution story is in brief that robbery incident took place at the house of Sha Alam, an inhabitant of Kolabaria village of Sitakunda upazila on the night of April 17, 1993.
But the villagers caught two of the robbers red handed and beat them who were trying to flee away. The arrestees in their confessional statement named five more dacoits in the incident. Police submitted charges sheet on 1st February, 1994 following the case filed by Shamsunnahar, wife of Sha Alam against seven persons .
