Private varsities asked to abide by conditions
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday said the government will take legal action against the private universities which have failed to fulfill their conditions in running the universities under the rules of the Private University Act-2010.
“Some of the private universities are yet to fulfill their conditions as per the Act and hence they have to face legal action” he told a function in the auditorium of University of Liberal Arts of Bangladesh (ULAB) here, an official release said. The function was held on the occasion of 13th founding anniversary of the ULAB.
Chairman of University Grants Commission(UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, Lawmaker and member of ULAB Trustee Board Kazi Nabil Ahmed and Vice-chancellor of the university Dr HM Zahirul Haque, among others, addressed the function.
Nahid said a remarkable progress has been brought about in the education sector as the government is working sincerely to expand and improve quality of education in the country.
The government has taken massive programmes to enhance quality of education as it is the prime challenge in the education sector, the minister added.
He called upon all including the private sector to supplement the efforts of improving standard of education to create skilled human resources.
Nahid said the government has set a target of achieving 30 per cent enrolment in technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an economically developed country.
“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical education while the current enrolment is 14 per cent,” he added.

Fundamental training of journalism starts at JU
A three-day-long workshop titled ‘Fundamental Training of Journalism’ started at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus yesterday.
Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in association with Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) have organised the workshop at JUJA office of Teacher and Student Centre.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam addressed the function as chief guest while adviser of JUJA also the president of JU Teachers’ Association, Professor Dr Farid Ahmed inaugurated it.
She thanked the PIB and JUJA for organising this programme.
A total of 38 correspondents of campus of different online and print media are taking part at the programme.
The training workshop will conclude on September 5.

International seminar on “How can knowledge management be used in armed forces” held at BUP
An international seminar titled “How can Knowledge Management be used in Armed Forces” jointly organised by Center for Higher Studies and Research (CHSR) and Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) held at Bijoy Auditorium of  its campus on Monday, says an ISPR press release.
Major General A K M Abdur Rahman, ndc,psc, Director General, Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) was present as the chief guest while BUP Vice-chancellor Major General Md Salahuddin Miaji, rcds, psc was present as the special guest in the seminar.  Brigadier General Syed Mofazzel Mawla (Retd), Dean, Centre for Higher Studies and Research (CHSR) presided over the seminar while Dr. Arthur Shelley, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Australia presented the keynote paper.
Among others, BUP Pro Vice Chancellor Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder, Ph.D., BUP High Officials, invited Civil and Military Guests, BUP Teachers, Officers and Students were present in the seminar.

Freshers reception held in Gazipur
Inauguration of a new building of Gazipur Metropoliton College and Institute, a reception programme to new students and a cultural programme were held on the college premises in Gazipur town on Tuesday.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, MP, was the chief guest in the programme while chairman of the college management committee Kazi Alim Uddin Buddin presided over.
Deputy registrar of National University Abdul Malek, commander of Gazipur district Muktijoddha Command Council Kazi Mozammel Haque, principal of Bhawal Badre Alam Government University College Professor Jerina Sultana, principal of Gazipur Government Women College Professor Ferdousy Pervin, principal of Tongi Government College professor Mohammed Rafikul Islam, professor MA Bari, Mohammed Moksudur Rahman and Awami League leader  Abdul Hadi  Shamim  spoke, among others. Earlier the minister inaugurated  a new building of the college.
