Share price index at the country’s both bourses - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange - ended the week in red on Thursday with huge drop in market activities, reports UNB.
The total turnover for the week stood at Tk 3,443 crore, a decline by 43.60 per cent, which was Tk 6,105 crore in the week before.
The DSEX index has fallen below the 6,100 mark this week. Four out of five days of this week closed red.
In the previous week, the key index of the premier lost 33.4 points. The DSEX index has fallen from the 6,200 mark.
Average daily turnover also decreased by 43.6 per cent comparing to previous week. The daily turnover averaged Tk 688.71 crore which was similar to last week over the previous week’s average of Tk 1,221.04 crore. Meanwhile, Average Trade Volume also decreased by 47.0 per cent and total number of trades also saw 31.1 per cent decrease.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 77.64 points or 1.26 per cent to finish the week at 6,092.84 points.
The two other indices also edged lower. The DSE Shariah Index also shed over by 16.03 points or 1.18 per cent to close at 1,345.86 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, went down by 19.92 points or 0.91 per cent to settle at 2,177.62 points. LankaBangla Securities, analysing last week’s market situation, said, “Index lost 78 points this week with huge drop in market activities.”
The central bank has brought around half a dozen commercial banks under its close monitoring after it detected anomalies in their recent share market activities, the leading stockbroker added.
All sectors except four closed negative this week. Looking at the large cap sectors, only telecommunication sector showed a reasonable gain of 0.87 per cent. Food & allied and bank sector also registered marginal gain of 0.09 per cent and 0.02 per cent respectively.
Top gaining stocks of the week were LEGACYFOOT, DUTCHBANGL, and BBSCABLES.
Conversely, top losing stocks were MEGHNAPET, NORTHERN and SUMITPOWER.
SHAHJABANK topped the weekly turnover list UTTARABANK, NBL, JAMUNABANK, EXIMBANK, and SUMITPOWER.
The CSE key index, CSCX closed the last week at 11,412.64 points, a fall by 1.43 per cent.
Of the 284 issues traded, 41 advanced, 232 suffered loss and 11 remained unchanged.The total turnover for the week stood at Tk 502.48 crore on the port city bourse.
