Dhaka Division piled on a healthy total of 484 for seven against Khulna Division at the close of the second day of the third round in the Tier-1 fixture of the Walton IoL Smart Fridge National Cricket League (NCL) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong yesterday.
Dhaka Metro have a deficit of 210 against Rajshahi Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS) in the Tier-2 encounter in Khulna.
Elsewhere at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi the match between Barisal Division and Rangpur Division, while at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Borga, Sylhet Division and Chittagong Division match could not roll onto the ground on the Day-2 due to the rains and the wet outfield condition. Both the matches were called off without a ball being bowled.
Khulna vs Dhaka
Resuming the second day at 132-4, Dhaka added another 352 runs at the cost of the three wickets before the bails were drawn for the day. Both overnight batsmen Shuvataga Hom and Taibur Rahman Parvez holed out for fifty-plus scores. Hom finally scored 66 restarting with overnight 41. Before being trapped lbw off Mehedi Hasan, the national discard clouted nine boundaries in his 101-ball stay.
Nadif Chowdhury therefore took the charge on his shoulder and stitched together a couple of priceless partnerships en route to his career best magnificent 166-run innings. He hit 69-run sixth wicket with Parvez, who cracked a patient 170-ball 79 with just seven fours and another invaluable 227 with Mosharraf Hossain Rubel for the seventh wicket stand that gave them a decent total.
This was Nadif’s sixth century in his 15-year-long career, in where his previous best was 141. His elegant 239-ball knock was emblazoned with 17 boundaries alongside half-a-dozen sixes.
Mosharraf Hossain, who remained at stumps, was just two runs short of his credible century. He clattered eight fours in his unbeaten 218-ball 98. Mohammad Sharif was five not out.
Mehedi Hasan snapped up three wickets, while Al Amin Hossain picked up two wickets for Khulna Division.
Dhaka Metro vs Rajshahi
Rajshahi Division resumed the second day with 114-4 and finally could have added 106 runs before being all-out. Though Forhad Reza got out for paltry 13 having run-out, Zunaid Siddique tried to stretch the innings with his fellow batsmen but he did not get ably support from the other end as none can stand tall against Dhaka Metro’s bowling onslaught. He was the ninth batsman to fall for 85. The former national opener converted his overnight score of 29 to 85. His patient 173-ball knock was studded with nine fours.
Pacers Dollar Mahmud and Sharifullah evenly shared six wickets between them. Dollar was stingy in conceding runs more than Sharifullah. He gave away 35 runs to take his stake, while Sharifullah conceded 57 runs to claim his three-wicket tally.
In reply, Dhaka Metro lost two wickets to put on 10 in 4.2 overs. Sadman Islam Anik remained unbeaten on eight.
Fast bowlers Shariful Islam and Forhad Reza grabbed one wicket each for Rajshahi Division.
