RAJSHAHI: State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony as people of all faiths have been observing their respective religious festivals with liberty for long, reports BSS.
He viewed that the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly so that people of all religions can live with peace and enjoy equal rights.
He was addressing a number of public gatherings while visiting puja mandaps to mark the celebration of Sarodiyo Durga Puja at Bagha and Charghat Upazilas in the district as the chief guest on Friday.
Greeting members of the Hindu community, the state minister called for following the ideals and teachings of Goddesses Durga to maintain peace, harmony and stability in the society.
He urged people of all religions to further strengthen the existing fraternity and friendly bonding with a view to ensuring national advancement and prosperity.
During the visit, the state minister distributed around Tk four lakh as financial grant among 78 puja mandaps authorities.
The five-day-long Durga Puja, the greatest of the Hindu festivals, ended yesterday with the solemn immersion of Goddess Durga idols. In the morning, devotees celebrated Bijoya Dashami, the last day of the festival, at the Puja mandaps across the country.
Devotees thronged Puja mandaps to celebrate Bijoya Dashami by reciting the mantras and offering flowers to the goddess Durga and praying for her blessings.
