Here, the leaders of China’s Communist Party live in humble cave dwellings and sleep on earthen beds. Here, the Chinese Communist Party set up schools to provide free education for poverty-stricken children. When Red Army soldiers return triumphant, local civilians reward them with what little food they have. This is a description of Yan’an in northern Shaanxi Province, written by the famous American journalist Edgar Snow in 1936.
Time and space have both changed, but this political party with a glorious 96-year history still stays true to its mission, and has plenty of fight.
The vitality of the Chinese path
“I am the last one to leave and the first one to begin. I am the Communist Party of China. I am always with you.” In 2016, a year marking the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, a public interest advertisement entitled “Who Am I” went viral.
“Whom do I work for? Whom do I rely on? Who am I?” The Communist Party of China has won strong support among the masses by evolving yet holding true to its foundational principles.
“The embodiment of China’s institutional superiority is the leadership of the Communist Party of China,” said Hu An’gang, president of Tsinghua University’s National Conditions Institute.
Firm in its ideals and beliefs, brilliant in historical foresight, with magnificent international vision, an excellent ability to govern, a readiness to assume responsibility and great innovative courage. These unique spiritual traits have enabled the Communist Party of China—the largest political party in the world—to always maintain and advance its cause.
“Adhering to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, China promotes the healthy development of its economy and society, and has greatly improved people’s living standards. Because of this, the country has won the admiration of the rest of the world,” said Severino Cabral, director of the Brazilian Institute for China and Asia-Pacific Studies.
The power of the Chinese system
“While Americans continue to quarrel, the Chinese have already begun to work.” “Chinese people build a new airport much faster than Germans.” These are exclamations by Western media and politicians who were once ready to find fault with China.
“The world needs to rediscover the advantages of the Chinese system,” said David Gosset, a famous French scholar whose opinions have won recognition across the world.
The famous American futurist, John Naisbitt, once pointed out that China’s institutional advantages help stimulate the vitality of its development while also maintaining policy stability and continuity. Chairman of British 48 Group Club, Stephen Perry, found that no other country has both long-term development planning and short-term development goals on par with China.
The source of China’s theoretical confidence
Gifford, deputy director of the Office of the President and Cabinet in Zimbabwe, was one of the first students to attend the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University. “Learning of China’s deep experience in governing itself has broadened my horizons. Now I think about problems more comprehensively, objectively and deeply,” Gifford said of his studies.
Based on an unshaking confidence in its path towards the future, the Communist Party of China has also established theoretical confidence. The construction of the country’s theoretical system features a unity of theory and practice as well as featuring the traditions of continuous innovation and timely advancements.
Joseph Nye, a professor at Harvard University who first proposed the concept of “soft power,” has asserted that the political values, social development models and foreign policies advocated by China will all have a growing impact on the international community.
The source of cultural confidence
“We should have every confidence in the idea of socialism with Chinese characteristics, in our theories and in our system. Most importantly, we must strengthen confidence in our culture.”
The very source of the cultural confidence of the Communist Party of China comes from ancient cultural traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years.
With a people-first approach, courageous innovation, a sense of inclusiveness, and developing ourselves in order to help others —following these tenets, we can easily see the innovative inheritance bestowed upon the Communist Party of China through China’s outstanding traditional spirit.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held, Party leaders have proposed the concept of building a community of shared future for all mankind, as well as the Belt and Road Initiative and many other important ideas. They have drawn the attention of the international community and these ideas have been written into UN General Assembly resolutions. Additionally, these ideas have influenced the documents of many international organizations, highlighting the growing cultural confidence of the Communist Party of China.
The Communist Party of China is well aware of its own mission. It knows very well that its path is in line with the well-being of the Chinese people, as well as with the great cause of world peace and development. (Xinhua)
