Audience-admired dance artiste and actress Nadia Ahmed will perform in a dance drama based on the life of Kadambari Devi--with whom Rabindranath Tagore had a mysterious relationship--today on maha navami, the ninth day of Durga Puja, at Banani Puja Mandap in the capital.
Under the overall coordination of Biplap Saha, the owner of Biswa Rong, Nadia will come up with 36-minute performance on the life of Kadambari tonight at 8:30pm. Choreographed by Likhon Roy and Ivan Shahriar Sohag, along with Nadia, the artiste of Nrityakotha will also perform in this dance drama.
Nadia said about performing the role of Kadambari in the dance drama, “Presenting such an illustrious character like Kadambari in front of the audience is a joyous and aspiring matter for me. To the best of my knowledge, no one had earlier done any dance drama with this character. From that point of view, I am cordially grateful to the people who have provided me this opportunity. Though this is not possible to portray the entire life of Kadambari within this short period, I have tried to prepare the complete story in best possible manner within this 36 minutes. As a result, I am a little bit worried as well as very happy with the challenge. I hope the dance drama will be liked by the audience.”
To note, Tagore and Kadambari had a complex relationship. She was married, childless and two years older than him. The duo was close to each other for about ten years. Jyotirindranath was 13 years older than Kadambari and always busy with his work. Kadambari was married into the Tagore household at the age of 9 when Rabindranath was seven years old. The neglected and lonely Kadambari and Tagore formed a symbiotic relationship. He depended on her for her comments and valuable insights into his work, while he filled a vacuum in her life. He dedicated four books to her.
