For her special contribution to the country’s music arena, popular singer Shammi Akhter will be honoured with a special award at the 12th edition of ‘Channel i Music Award’. The award ceremony will be held today at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
Shammi Akhter said, “I am cordially grateful to Channel i and everyone related to the award. I request everyone to pray for my good health and wellness.”
The singer, who has been suffering from cancer since last five years, made her debut in the playback with the film ‘Oshikkhito’ directed by Azizur Rahman. Written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and music composition and direction from Satya Saha, two of her songs in this film--’Jemon Achi Temon Robo Bou Hobonare’ and ‘Dhaka Shohor Aisa Amar Asha Puraichhe’ helped her to gain huge popularity, and following the success of the playback songs, Shammi Akhter lent her vocal to more than three hundred songs in the films.
To note, Shammi Akhter received the prestigious National Film Award in the year 2010 for her song in the film ‘Bhalobaslei Ghor Badha Jay Na’ directed by Jakir Hossain Raju.
