Veteran singer Khurshid Alam, a glittering star in the sky of the music, is going to receive a lifetime achievement award for his immense contribution to the country’s music arena DhakaLive has news that the lifetime achievement award will be handed over to Khurshid Alam at the 12th edition of ‘Channel i Music Awards Powered by Seven Up’.
The award ceremony will be held today at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. Ijaj Khan Swapan, who is the planner and director of the award programme, has confirmed the news. The award programme will be telecast on Channel i after the news of 2pm on October 6.
Khurshid Alam said about receiving the award, “This is undoubtedly very happy occasion for me to receive the lifetime achievement award at such a prestigious programme. I am grateful to Channel i family. As well as, I am cordially thankful to them, who have selected me for the award. I seek everyone’s blessing for me.”
However, Khurshid Alam, in his early age, became champion in the categories of Rabindra Sangeet and modern song for consecutive two years by participating in East Pakistan Education Week in 1962-63. He came to limelight with two of his songs titled ‘Chanchal Du Noyon’ written by Jebunnesa Jaman and ‘Tomar Du Hat Chhuye Shopoth Nilam’ written by poet Sirajul Islam. Recorded with the music composition by Azad Rahman, the songs were aired on radio in 1967. The songs were instant hit among the audience, and the success of the songs brought him the opportunity to do playback in the film ‘Aguntok’ directed by Babul Chowdhury. The song titled ‘Bondhi Pakhir Moto Monta Kede More’, written by his uncle and composed by Azad Rahman, received huge popularity on the lip of Nayak Raj Razzak.
Khurshid Alam also did playback in the popular films like ‘Pichdhala Poth’ directed by Ehtesham and ‘Sadharon Meye’ directed by ER Khan. Besides, most of the popular songs on the lip of actor Razzak were rendered by Khurshid Alam. Noted singers Runa Laila and Sabina Yasmin are the two artistes with whom Khurshid Alam did most of his duet playback. Till now, the singer has lent his vocal to more than four hundred songs.
