PM’s 71st birthday celebrated at DU
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday celebrated the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 71st birthday with a joy rally on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Led by BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary S M Jakir Hossain, BCL DU unit president Abid Al Hasan and general secretary Motahar Hossain Prince, among others, joined the rally.
The rally began from Madhur Canteen and ended at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) after parading main streets on the campus.
Aero Day observed at MIST
Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) celebrated Aero Day on Tuesday at MIST, Mirpur Cantonment, says an ISPR press release.
Brigadier General Md Abdul Wohab, Director of R&D of MIST was chief guest in the occasion. In his speech, he said, students of AE Dept are the future aircraft designers of Bangladesh. He also said that, AE students will take a leading role for the development of aircraft and related industries of Bangladesh.
Aeronautics is the science of art involved with the study, design and manufacturing of air flight capable machines and the techniques of operating aircraft and rockets within the atmosphere. The day is celebrated with rally, competition, Olympiad and cultural programme, where around 200 students took part. Mentionable, Aeronautical Engineering (AE) Department of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) started it’s journey from January 2009.
Among others, High military and civil officers and student of MIST were present in the occasion.
Roundtable on “Capacity Building for Sustainable Development: Role of Universities” held at BUP
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organised a roundtable discussion on “Capacity Building for Sustainable Development: Role of Universities” by the initiative of the Department of Environmental Science under the Faculty of Science and Technology at central conference room on its campus in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka on Tuesday, says an ISPR press release.
The Chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan was present in the programme as the chief guest while BUP Vice-chancellor Major General Md Salahuddin Miaji, rcds, psc was present as the special guest in the discussion.
Renowned scientist and Executive Director of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) Dr Atiq Rahman presented the keynote paper. Brigadier General Akhtaruzzaman Siddique, PBGM psc, te: Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology presided over the programme.
Moreover, BUP high officials, Teachers, invited guests from different universities and institutions were also present in the roundtable discussion.
Two shops gutted at BAU
Two shops situated in ‘Zobber More’ area of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus were gutted on Wednesday night.
Fire Service and Civil Defence sources said the fire originated from short circuit in a drug shop and soon engulfed the adjacent book shop.
Being informed, a firefighter unit rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one hour effort. No one hurt in the incident.
The shop owners claimed that the loss may surpass Tk. 30 lakh.
IU’s 4th convocation in January
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will organise its 4th convocation in January next year.
IU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari confirmed the matter in a press conference on Thursday evening at VC’s office of the university.
University pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha and registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif were present on the occasion.
President Abdul Hamid also the Chancellor of the university is expected to attend the convocation and will preside over the ceremony according to the section 8(1) of the University Act 1980, VC said.
Mentioned, the last and 3rd convocation of the university was held in 2002.
