College student found dead

A college student was found hanging from a tree in Telipara area of Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Masud Rana Masum, 19, son of Kabir Ali, a resident of the area and an honours student of Balugram Adarsha Degree College.
Baliadanga union parishad chairman Tariqul Islam said a woman spotted the body hanging from a mango tree around 7:30am and informed others.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The hands and legs of the body were tied up with a rope, said Saber Reza Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station. Masum remained missing since he went out of his house around 8:30pm on Wednesday.

Woman strangled to death
Magura: An elderly woman was found dead in her house at Balidia village in Mohammadpur upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
Mohammadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam said Nila Parvin, 50, daughter of Akber Khan of Balidia village used to live in her father’s house after divorce.
Last night, some unidentified miscreants entered her room and strangled her to death.
On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Magura Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Shibir leader held with arms

Detective Branch (DB) of police in a dive arrested a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, with a pistol and bullet from Hujrapur Khalghat area of the district town yesterday morning.
The arrested was identified as Jakaria, publicity secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, district unit.
On a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted the drive in the area and arrested Jakaria with the pistol and bullet, a DB official said. 20 cases were pending against him, he said.

Lightning strikes kill four in 2 dists

Four people were killed by lightning in Chuadanga and Patuakhali districts on Wednesday.
In Chuadanga, two boys were killed and one child injured by lightening at Chhaighoria-Takpara beel in Alamdanga upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Tarek Hossain, 16, son of Kalu Mia of village Boleswapur Uttorpara and Jahid Hossain, 15, son of Najrul Islam of the village. The injured is Shahin, 7, of the same village. According to sources, they were on a boat at that time.
Suddenly a thunderbolt stroke leaving two of them dead and one injured. The injured child Shine was taken to Chuadanga Sadar hospital for treatment.
In Patuakhali, two fishermen were killed and three others injured by lightning in Kalapara upazila of the district on Wednesday. The injured were taken to Patuakhali General Hospital for treatment. The deceased were identified as Bachu Munshi, 35 and Bahadur Mridha, 25.  
Eye witnesses said a thunderbolt hit the fishermen while catching fish in the Ramnabad River.

Man drowns in Madhumati
Magura: A 35-year-old man drowned and still remained missing in Madhumati River adjacent to Jhama Bazar in Mohammadpur upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Police said Polash along with his friends was swimming in the river in the afternoon and drowned due to strong current.
