Bagerhat: A total of 200 mothers could not hold tears of happiness from their eyes on Wednesday as their children worshipped them marking the Matri Puja on the second day of the five-day Durga Puja at Amragasi Puja mandap in Sarankhola upazila of Bagerhat district, reports UNB.
The mothers were sitting like goddesses in line while their children of different age washed their legs with water and worshipped them with flowers, grass and leaf of Aegle marmelos, or bael.
During an hour-long Puja the children offered different types of sweets and foods and chains of Marigold flower to their mothers.
Religious Affairs Adviser of Jatiya Party Babu Somnath Dey, also organiser of the puja, said the puja delivers lesson to every child to respect and worship their mothers as they brought them into the world. This year Durga Puja is being celebrated in Bagerhat at 606 puja mandaps in Sadar, Sarankhola, Mongla, Rampal, Fakirhat, Mollahat and Chitalmari.
Meanwhile, the people of Hindu community are celebrating the Mahasaptami puja across the country, marking Durga, the goddess’ victory over demon Mahishashur.
