Rupali women cricketers keep impressive run

Sports Reporter

Defending champions Rupali Bank continued their rich form of vein as they outclassed Indira Road Krira Chakra by an impressive 10 wickets in their third group phase fixture of the Dhaka Women’s Premier Division Cricket League at BKSP-3 yesterday.

The Bankers made their DPL mission with a bang when they outshined Hillol Jubo Sangha by 10 wickets in the tournament opener. They thereafter thrashed strongly-built Kalabagan Krira Chakra by just two runs in their second outing.

After winning the toss, Rupali Bank invited Indira Road KC to bat first but the latter wrapped up for a paltry 38 in 34.3 overs. Though Neelam Bisht, foreign recruit of Rupali Bank, wrecked the main damage of Indira Road, Sathira Jakir Jessi started its proceedings and finished the havoc.

Punjab-born Neelam grabbed six wickets for 17. She was aided by Jessi and Rumana Ahmed, the duo picked up two wickets each for Rupali Bank.

Morjina Akhter, who was the only double digit scorer of the side, made 10. Four batsmen trudged back for duck.

In reply, Rupali Bank Krira Parishad overhauled the measly target at ease without losing any wicket in 7.4 overs. Sanjida Islam remained unbeaten on 32 off 31 with three boundaries and one six. Ayesha Rahman was seven not out.

On the other hand, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity trounced Gulshan Youth Club by six wickets as per the DLS at BKSP-4, the match reduced to a 39-over affair due to the rains.

Put in to bat first, Gulshan Youth Club put on 124 in 37.3 overs with Tahin Tahera topscoring 45. Anisha Rahman (24) and Ridhima Aggarwal (21) were the other notable contributors to Gulshan Youth.

Ritu Moni and Lobone Akhtar claimed two wickets apiece for the winners.

In reply, Khelaghar SKS chased down the target just losing four wickets in 31 overs. Nigar Sultana smashed 51, the highest of the match, off 66 with the help of half-a-dozen fours and one six before being caught behind. Aka Mollick (32), Ritu Moni (20 not out), Fahima Khatun (15 not out) also contributed to the team’s victory.

Shirin Akhter snared three wickets for the losing side.
