2 get life for killing minor girl
Natore: A court here on Tuesday convicted two people and awarded them life imprisonment in a minor girl murder case in 2014, reports UNB.
Natore Additional District and Sessions Judge Hasanuzzaman sentenced Rafiqul Islam and Abu Sayed to life term imprisonment and acquitted Ayesha, wife of Abu Sayed.
According to prosecution, Mim, 9, daughter of Nurajit Prang, a resident of Garabari village of Singra upazila, was kidnapped by Rafiqul Islam and Abu Sayed on December 23 in 2014. After killing Mim, they took away all jewelry from her body and hid her body in a local pond.
After examining all records and witnessed, the court handed down the verdict.

BSF sends back 17 Bangladeshis through Satkhira border
Satkhira: India’s Border Security Force (BSF) handed over 17 Bangladeshi including women and children through two separate flag meetings with Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) in Kalaroa border point area in Kalaroa upazila on Tuesday morning, reports UNB.
Mizanur Rahman, Nayek Subedar of Kakdanga BGB camp, said, BSF sent back the Bangladeshi citizens through Bhadiali border point and Kenragachhi border point after two separate flag meeting withs BGB personnel.
Later, the 17 Bangladeshis were handed over to Kalaroa Police Station and a case was filed in this connection.
BSF members arrested the Bangladeshis after they entered India without any legal documents few days back.
Following this, BSF sent a letter to Kakdanga BGB camp asking the BGB personnel to take back the illegal Bangladeshis.

Rohingya persecution protested

Lawyers’ assistants of Chapainawabganj formed a human chain in front of their office on the Chapainawabganj court premises yesterday protesting the killings of Rohingyas in Myanmar. The programme was arranged under the banner of Bangladesh Ayinjibi Sahakari Samity, Chapainawabganj district unit. During the human chain, President of the samity Shah Alam, Secretary Zohurul Hoque, Fahiuddin, Shamsul Alam, Moyej Uddin, Ketabul Hoque and Anwarul Hoque spoke, among others.
Terming the killings, rape, arson attacks by Myanmar government ‘inhuman’ they demanded immediate stop of all repression on the Rohingyas. They also urged Myanmar government to take back all the citizens of Myanmar and provide safety in their own residents.
They also urged the United Nations to take effective measures to stop killings and repression.

Teenager jailed for ‘raping minor girl’ in Chandpur

A teenage boy was sent to jail on Tuesday on charge of raping a seven-year-old girl at Koila ghat in the district town.
According to case statement, the seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by Rakib Bepari, 12, son of Mostafa Bepari at Koila ghat in the district town on Monday.
Failing to settle the matter through arbitration, victim’s family filed the case on Tuesday.
Following the case, police arrested the accused on Tuesday afternoon. Contacted, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, Waliullah Oli said that a court here sent the accused to jail custody.

Woman’s body recovered
MAGURA: Police recovered the body of a housewife from Balidia Dakhinpara village under Mohammadpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Nila Begum, 50, wife of Afzal Khan, a resident of the same area. On receipt of information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body near from her house. Later, the body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
“We are looking into the matter”, said officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station Tarikul Islam.
