Police recovered the body of a woman at Doukia village in Kishoreganj sadar on Monday. Police arrested four people including the victim’s husband in this connection.
The deceased was Parul Akter Khanom, 33, wife of Shafiq Ahmed Khan of Doukia area.
Locals sources said Shafiq Ahmed, son of former sadar upazila chairman late Abdul Bari Khan of Doukia village married Parul Akter, daughter of late Amjad Hossain of Choigaon village in Munishiganj district 17 years ago. They have two children in their conjugal life.
Victim’s younger brother Md Rasel Mia alleged his sister Parul was killed by husband and her in-laws. Parul was tortured several times earlier by her husband and his relatives for dowry.
Police sources said being informed by locals on Monday at 7:30am police rushed to the spot and recovered Parul’s body from the bank of a pond nearby her husband’s house. The body bore around 20 stab injuries, police sources added.
In primary query, victim’s husband Shafiq said he and Parul went to bed at night. Around 3.15am his wife went outside to fetch water from tube well but she did not return. Later, at 7am he came to know that his wife’s body was found nearby the pond.
Khondoker Showkat Jahan, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station said victim’s body was sent to Kishoreganj Sadar General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
