Bangladesh are expecting a lot more bouncy track than the practice match when they will play the first Test against South Africa at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Thursday.
But that doesn’t mean the confidence they gained from the three-day warm up game at Willowmore Park in Benoni will be diminished, said team’s top order batsman Imrul Kayes.
Kayes who has been in patchy form in the international cricket got a much needed confidence with 34 and 51 in his two innings in the practice match.
“Regardless of wicket and opponents, when you will score runs, it will give you immense confidence. I have the opportunity to score big which I couldn’t do that. But after a bad series against Australia, I needed some runs,” he said.
Kayes scored 0, 1, 0 and 15 in his four innings against Australia, a sheer bad patch that he hardly faced in his entire career.
He however said that they are not expecting the same wicket like Benoni in the first Test as he thought the wicket will carry more bounce.
“South Africa wicket is traditionally bouncy wicket. You have to adjust with it somehow. We came here, knowing that we have to face the balls what will come on our ribcage. So we are preparing ourselves in that way.”
Kayes informed the batsmen and bowlers have been doing excellent job in the net and seemed to head in right direction. But still he thinks the net session and original match has much difference.
“We have been doing well and the confidence is high. But we know the real test will be the Test match. They will come with all guns blazing in their known condition. Our record here is not that good but we came here with some good result against some top teams. So we’ll give our best.”
