ACC to probe allegations of illegal food stockpiling

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said Yesterday they have decided to probe the allegations of illegal stockpiling of foods by hoarders in connivance with a section of food officials, reports BSS.

“We have received allegations against a section of food officials of taking undue advantages from some hoarders over the illegal stockpiling of foods and decided to probe the matter,” he said in discussion held in Rangamati district.

“The commission will take exemplary legal actions against the government officials and hoarders involved in illegal stockpiling of foods with a view to increasing their prices to embezzle people’s money,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rangamati Md Manzarul Mannan presided over the discussion titled “Corruption-free public services: nature of graft allegation”. ACC Secretary Dr Md Shamsul Arefin also spoke on the occasion, among others. The discussion was held at the DC office conference room. Stressing the need for obeying the law, Mahmood said, “Each of the citizens should obey the law to establish the rule of law and we should remember that none of us above the law.” “You (district level government officials) are playing the most important role in delivering services to the people (at the local level). But, people are lodging complaints against you which is very unfortunate,” he added.
