Ambassadors designate of Brazil and Switzerland to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Tuesday, reports UNB.
The envoys are Joao Tabajara de Olivereira Junior of Brazil and René Holenstein of Switzerland. Welcoming the ambassadors, the president assured them of overall cooperation in discharging their duties and hoped that they will play their due role in strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and their respective countries. President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meetings. During the credential presentation of René Holenstein, the President briefed the envoy about the Rohingya situation, saying the Rohingya influx is a big problem for Bangladesh. He urged Switzerland to continue putting pressure on the Myanmar government to stop persecution of its citizens in Rakhine State and take back its displaced people from Bangladesh.
Emphasising existing bilateral relations between Switzerland and Bangladesh, the Swiss ambassador hoped that cooperation in various sectors of both the countries, including trade and investment, will be strengthened in the future.
