A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced three members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 14 years imprisonment, seven years in each of the two separate cases filed for hurling bombs at courtroom in Chittagong in 2005.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in imprisonment. Chittagong additional chief metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Sahadat Hossain Bhuiyan handed down the verdict, said Goubindo Narayan Roy, assistant public prosecutor of the court.
The three convicts are the then Chittagong region JMB commander Jabed Iqbal alias Mohammad, activists Shahadat Ali alias Shahadat Hossain alias Masum Billah and Mizan alias Jahidul Islam Sumon, the lawyer said. Of them, two convicts are now behind bar while Mizan is absconding.
According to case documents on October 3, 2005, the convicts hurled bombs at the court rooms of the then Metropolitan Magistrate Akram Hossain and Joint District Judge Abu Syed Dilzar Hossain. No casualty reported then as the bombs did not explode.

Recording deposition of the two cases started simultaneously on January 27, 2008.
