Police yesterday stopped a government secretary’s vehicle on the second consecutive day of their drive in the city against vehicles taking the wrong side of the road. The car of a police officer of the rank of an ASP and four motorbikes were also stopped for violating traffic rules. The cops also sent a car to the dumping station with the help of a tow truck, sources said. Cases were filed against
the drivers of the vehicles under the Motor Vehicle Act. Senior assistant commissioner of police (Traffic) Mohammed Alauddin confirmed that law enforcers had intercepted two government vehicles and four motorbikes during the drive in Banglamotor area yesterday evening.
On Sunday, the first day of the operation, police filed a case against the driver of the car of rural development and cooperatives secretary Mahfuza Sultana, for driving on the wrong side of the road. The infringement had taken place at Hare Road.
The driver did the same thing yesterday by driving on the wrong side of the road at Banglamotor area, the police officer said. He said the drive would continue and vehicles violating traffic rules would be booked.
Earlier, on Sunday, police seized the vehicles of a state minister, the secretary of a ministry, a judge, ruling party leaders, police, journalists and others for flouting traffic rules.
