2 to die for murder in 2 dists

Two people were sentenced to death for murder in Chapainwabganj and Jhenidah districts yesterday.

Our Chapainwabganj correspondent reports: A court in Chapainwabganj yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his friend in Shibganj upazila seven years ago.

Additional District and Session Judge M Ziaur Rahman handed down the verdict against M Abdul Malek, 23, son of Mahtab Uddin of Kantinagar village under Shibganj upazila of the district, a court official

said.

According to prosecution, the convict Malek borrowed Taka 18,000 from his friend Rubel but did not returned the money although Rubel asked him several times.

As a sequel of this, Malek called Rubel from his house on September 4, 2009 and hacked him to death.

After 32 days of the incident, police recovered the decomposed body from a sugarcane field and arrested Malek.

Rubel’s father Tobjul Islam filed a murder case with Shibganj thana accusing Malek on October 10, 2009.

Investigating officer Sub-Ispector (SI) Jamal Uddin submitted chargesheet against Malek to the court on January 31, 2010.

After hearing 17 witnesses and examining other documents the court gave the verdict in presence of Malek.

Our Jhenidah correspondent adds: A court in Jhenidah sentenced a man to death for killing a man in 2010.

Additional District and Session Judge Sayed Habibul Islam handed down the verdict in the morning.

According to prosecution, convict Matiar Rahman, son of Ezahar Joarder of Bharuapara village of Jhenidah Sadar upazila along with other criminals shot villager Abul Kashem to death on January 25 in 2010. Other cohorts of Matiar managed to flee after the incident.

Fahmida Khatun Ani, wife of Abul Kashem filed a murder case against the criminals.
